Product Description
Hello family, friends, and the Warroad & Roseau Community. Many of you know the James family very well. If not, you’ve probably visited with them at the rink, or while standing on the side lines under the Friday night lights. Because that’s where they can usually be found…supporting, cheering on, and being their kids biggest fans. Ryan, a Plant Manager at Marvin Windows, and Jamie, a Licensed Daycare Provider, work hard to provide their family with everything they need. They would never ask for anything but I’ve seen first hand what our small communities can do for a family when the unimaginable happens. So, here’s the latest update from Jamie on their son Brody: Brody had been experiencing neck pain for roughly a year. We attributed the pain to possibly a football injury. However, on July 14 after having an MRI done they found a 4.3cm expansile lytic lesion at the C2 vertebrae. After contacting my sister Jessica and her boyfriend Cole, both surgical techs at Sanford in Fargo. Cole was able to relay the imaging results on to one of the BEST neurosurgeon Sanford has to offer. Everything started moving very fast, he had CT scan on friday(7/18) and another MRI on Monday (7/21). Brody then met with the neurosurgeon Tuesday after noon and was then admitted to Sanford Pediatric PACU. Surgery was done on Wednesday(7/22) and an Occipital Cervical Fusion was done. Brody is now fused from the base of his skull to his C5 vertebrae. At the time of surgery the neurosurgeon was able to get a piece of the tumor to send off to pathology. The results from the pathology will take up to a week for the final results. This type of tumor is very rare and only happens in 1% of the population. Sanford has no documentation of having done a surgery for this type of tumor except in one other case but the tumor was in the humerus bone. Brody will need to be seen by oncology/radiology for the treatment of the remaining part of the tumor. And as of now radiation will be needed to shrink the tumor. For the next 3 months Brody will also have to be in a CTO(cervical thoracic orthosis) brace that he will have to wear at ALL times to make sure it stabilizes his neck until it is fused. We will have to make multiple trips to Fargo for follow up appointments and further treatments. Thank you to everyone for showing your love and support! It means the world to me to be able to help them while they get the best treatment for Brody. And I know this means even more to them! Whether it’s donating, sharing, or praying…you all matter and it takes so much stress and worry from them as they navigate through this difficult time.
